This may have been a good restaurant in 2008 but I went over the weekend and found it not to be!

We chose it because of the promise of gluten free options - there was one which wasn’t listed on the menu and which was cooked with blue cheese and sounded like it would be too fatty/rich for our gluten free person. We were told there was gluten free pasta available but it would take ages to cook and would create a problem in the kitchen - most of the pasta meals were also very oily so we didn’t think they would be suitable either. We ended up ordering chicken soup - which came out with bread (!!!!)

Also had an issue that two of our party had been fasting that day (for religious reasons) and had broken their fast with something light before we got to the restaurant - so only wanted a light meal. When we explained this we were told everyone had to order a main. We compromised with a salad and wedges and a main but still - not very customer friendly! And the wedges were a tiny saucer of about five wedges with no dipping sauce.

The only positive was the waiter who did do his best to help but I certainly won’t be going there again in a hurry. Most disappointing

I enjoy your pizza bases but they are no longer available at Whakatane. New World Bakery say they don’t receive credits for the product so are no longer ordering it in. No other supermarkets in the town have stock either. How do I obtain them?

Another Coeliac and I enjoyed a lunch from their menu selection, from which most dishes could be done as gluten free without any trouble.  I had the gluten free Caesar Salad, complete with the croutons.

We also provide a range of items for those people who are egg free, wheat free, sugar free, yeast free, nut free, dairy free or vegetarian.

We deliver across NZ or pop into our Auckland store.

‘EVERYTHING so far has been delicious!!!! I would even go so far as to say that the things I have tried are far superior to anything non-gluten along the same lines. These foods are not just an alternative - they can easily be the food of choice based on the taste alone and not out of necessity! Enough to make one want to be a coeliac just to have the excuse….’  Rita, Western Springs, Auckland
As we do not use any preservatives, all our food is frozen or dry so pop your order straight into the freezer or pantry and use as needed.

Sen Sen ›

Sen Sen is a funny little cafe that my workmates and I head to at least once a week.  Beautiful fresh chinese food, with plenty of European takeaway favourites (but to be fair only the chips or omelette are GF on that part of the menu).  I was stressing about not being able to enjoy lunch with my friends, or being hugely restricted: but they came through!
The lovely lady behind the counter picked up on my hesitation in ordering, and asked if I needed anything special - when I said no gluten she pointed me to 5 of the 7 smorgasboard options, and any of the rice dishes on the blackboard menu - I love the hot platter of ginger beef/pork/chicken and the chicken and cashew nuts!  They use only cornflour to coat sweet and sours/lemon chicken etc, and only potato starch or cornflour to thicken sauces: because, I was told, lots of people eat flour, get very very sick!!!

So it’s a very casual cheap and cheerful chinese lunch, the staff are wonderful and I can keep having lunch out with my mates without inflicting my food issues on them!!!

My husband and I had been planning a really special night out for ages, to celebrate our wedding anniversary.  We saved our pennies and reserved a table at Martin Bosley’s.  Just after making the reservation I found out I needed to go GF - I was dreading cancelling the reservation!  But they were really happy to accommodate with some advance notice: we had a six course degustation menu with wine pairings, they confirmed my meal was to be GF on my arrival, they even brought in beautiful white bread to start with!  A fabulous night and I never would have realised I was missing gluten.  In fact another diner had an identical dinner to me, without requesting GF!  This is a very special restaurant, prices will confirm it’s not for every night out, but for a really special occasion it’s well worth it.  There’s a reason why it’s won so many awards!

Umu has a selection of gluten free foods to choose from. The staff told us they try to have at least 2 things to select from at anyone time. Their gluten free Raspberry Friands are the best ever. The pizza menu includes gluten free options. And they are relatively child friendly.

The Best Gluten Free burgers in the World! I go there often. I have been to the other outlet called Wisconsin who claim their burgers are the best in the World but Big J’s are better.
Even the gluten free bun, made by Venerdi, is very nice and does not fall apart.
Names of the burgers are space insspired like my favourite called Team Galaxy.
They make also vegetarian Lentil burgers which are nice for a change from my usual beef burger.
