Italian Cafe/Restaurant ›

Discovered this great snall cafe today that i have walked past a million times!

Nearly everything on the menu is gluten free including all their pasta meals, soup, cakes and beautiful fritatta’s.

I had some amazing pumpkin soup today which even came with Gluten free bread!

It is tucked away in the Guthrey Centre next to Ballantynes on High Street. I am unsure of the name but they have a sign out on the foot path saying Italian!

Definately recommend especially if you work in town and struggle to find new foods to eat.

A wonderful Thai restaurant in Merivale.  Have a variety of products, most with **gluten free** next to them.  Those meals are entirely gluten free recipes, so no worries with requesting “no…” etc.  Some say *Gluten free on request*, where you merely have to ask.

Also have vegetarian options.

Great Pad Thai and Satay.  Can also do takeaway/delivery.

Fully Licensed & BYO (Wine)

Open:
Lunch:  Sun, Wed-Fri 11:30-2pm
Dinner: All week, 5-9pm

The Shortbread House offers a range of tasty and delicious gluten free Biscuits, Shortbread, Bread, Cakes, Muffins, Scones, Slices, Sweet pies, Savoury pies, Muesli, Flour mixs so you can make your own and much more.
We do not just cater for gluten free, we also have a large variety of dairy free, egg free, sugar free products and more.

All of the products made in the shop are gluten and wheat free to prevent the possibility of contamination. Most of the ingredients used are also organic.

Shelley has worked in the food industry for over 15 years. She started The Shortbread House 4 years ago making Wheat based shortbreads and bread, also dairy free products due to her daughters intolerance to dairy and selling them at the markets.
Shortly after starting she had people approaching her asking for gluten free products.
After a lot of research, experimentation and a few door stops later a small range of gluten, wheat free products emerged. Over the last four years this range has expanded into a wide range of tasty, nutritious products. Because of this it was important to expand into a premises that was soley for gluten, wheat free products

Last year shelley openned a shop in Annesbrook soley for the production of her gluten/ wheat free products but reluctantly has had to move due to rising costs and pressures from competition to a NEW location on Salisbury Road, opposite Waimea College in Richmond where she will be sharing with another gluten free business called Homestyle Foods.

She will be officially open and baking up a storm at the shop on Monday, 9th of March.

Shelley makes the products herself and due to her own gluten intolerence she also eats them so you can be sure, if it does not pass the quality test for excellent flavour, and great texture she will not sell it.

Hours the shop will be open:
Monday to Thursday - 9am to 5.30pm
Fridays - 9.30am to 2pm
Closed Saturday at present
Closed Sunday

The Shortbread House can also be found at:
- The Farmers Market from 3pm til 7pm in summer and 3pm to 6pm in winter at Founders Park on Atawhai drive next to the Marae.
- The Montgomery Market (montys market) in the montgomery square on Saturdays from 8am til 1pm.

Some of our products are also sold on the Homestyle Foods stall at annual market events around the country, eg Martinborough market in Wellington.

We can also mail order, at present we do not have a web site at present but you can phone or email us for information and orders.

The Library ›

The Library is a cafe/function venue that was set up with diners with food intolerances in mind - and the food is good. It’s also a beautifully restored, atmospheric place to eat (was formerly Onehunga’s Carnegie Library). I had fluffy French toast with bacon and banana for the first time in seven years this morning. You can eat in or take away: this week’s choices included rice-crust quiche, stuffed potatoes, Louise cake and ginger crunch. The rocket and cheese puffs are especially nice. Everything in the cabinet is labelled to indicate if it’s gluten free, though you may find yourself double-checking in disbelief because the range is extensive for Auckland. Most items on the menu can be converted to gluten free except for pasta dishes. In winter, they have a Sunday roast, and they’re just about to kick off Sunday barbecues with gluten free sausages and hamburgers. Give them a call to let them know if you’re bringing a big group for this! The Library can also supply gluten-free whole cakes (including butterscotch and mocha). Also notable for their commitment to using recyclable/compostable packaging.
