Sen Sen

By Rachel on 29 June 2009 | Viewed 657 times

Sen Sen is a funny little cafe that my workmates and I head to at least once a week.  Beautiful fresh chinese food, with plenty of European takeaway favourites (but to be fair only the chips or omelette are GF on that part of the menu).  I was stressing about not being able to enjoy lunch with my friends, or being hugely restricted: but they came through!
The lovely lady behind the counter picked up on my hesitation in ordering, and asked if I needed anything special - when I said no gluten she pointed me to 5 of the 7 smorgasboard options, and any of the rice dishes on the blackboard menu - I love the hot platter of ginger beef/pork/chicken and the chicken and cashew nuts!  They use only cornflour to coat sweet and sours/lemon chicken etc, and only potato starch or cornflour to thicken sauces: because, I was told, lots of people eat flour, get very very sick!!!

So it’s a very casual cheap and cheerful chinese lunch, the staff are wonderful and I can keep having lunch out with my mates without inflicting my food issues on them!!!

I had the sweet and sour chicken and chicken curry for lunch today and even though it was delicious, I didn’t feel very well afterwards. Could have been something in the sauce? Don’t think I’ll be eating it again. Im Coeliac and could feel that something wasn’t right straight away. Oh well, pleasure for a few moments smile

I had the sweet and sour chicken and rice. They told me they batter it with Maize and Corn Flour. It was really nice at the time but like the previous person that commented I had reacted the next morning.
Maybe it was something in the sauce, not sure but it did taste good.
