The Library

The Library is a cafe/function venue that was set up with diners with food intolerances in mind - and the food is good. It’s also a beautifully restored, atmospheric place to eat (was formerly Onehunga’s Carnegie Library). I had fluffy French toast with bacon and banana for the first time in seven years this morning. You can eat in or take away: this week’s choices included rice-crust quiche, stuffed potatoes, Louise cake and ginger crunch. The rocket and cheese puffs are especially nice. Everything in the cabinet is labelled to indicate if it’s gluten free, though you may find yourself double-checking in disbelief because the range is extensive for Auckland. Most items on the menu can be converted to gluten free except for pasta dishes. In winter, they have a Sunday roast, and they’re just about to kick off Sunday barbecues with gluten free sausages and hamburgers. Give them a call to let them know if you’re bringing a big group for this! The Library can also supply gluten-free whole cakes (including butterscotch and mocha). Also notable for their commitment to using recyclable/compostable packaging.

Yum, yum, yum loved the slices at The Library which included Caramel Slice, Chocolate brownie, Ginger Crunch and Louise Cake!! I couldn’t resist and took one of each home for later!
The only thing that I could fault them on was the pancakes which unfortunately tasted very cardboardy!!!
