Air New Zealand short haul flights
By Teresa on 13 August 2007
Having just booked a ticket to Brisbane, I am appalled to find out that Air New Zealand do not offer any special dietary meals on short haul flights to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and throughout NZ. Passengers are advised to bring their own food on board, but this must be destroyed before going through customs on arrival at your destination.

We also struck this last year, travelling with my coeliac husband and my wheat allergic six year old, flying to Cairns. It is a long day for a littly without food, starting at 4.30am leaving home and arriving some eight or nine hours later in Cairns, before you even start looking for food there!
We entered into a lengthy phone discussion with someone at Air NZ and also wrote and expressed our dissatisfaction, citing the prevalence of food intolerances. I can only recommend that each person affected does the same. It is hard to quantify phone calls, but a paper trail eventually reflects numbers of customers affected.

I fly Qantas on International flights and they always offer a meal which is Gluten free, Dairy free and Nut free. On NZ shorthaul flights I always just tuck something in my handbag.

I am so shocked….I thought that it was bad enough that Chocolate was about the only Gluten Free option on Air NZ domestic flights (that you can purchase) I think that Air NZ have to wake up and realise that as time goes on the amount of people that are Gluten Free will increase and that they need to provide an option for everyone.
